Hotwork, Division of Fosbel providing combustion services worldwide.

Boilers, Power Generation & Waste Incineration

Hotwork convective heating helps prevent premature refractory failure by eliminating localized overheating and thermal shock during initial dryout and preheating.

The Hotwork system is more economical and portable than an auxiliary boiler for chemical cleaning. It is a clean burning, low-nox system ideal for starting boilers burning waste fuels.

Hotwork provides services for Utility Boilers, Bubbling Bed Boilers, Circulating Fluid Bed Boilers, Package Boilers, Waste Heat Boilers, Municipal Waste Boilers and Heat Recovery Steam Generator units.

Services include Heat for Chemical Cleaning, Steam Blows, Temporary Power Production and Refractory Dryout & Heatup.

Refractory Dryout & Heatup

When a unit is refractory lined, Hotwork can fire to the manufacturer's recommended schedule, to thoroughly dry refractories without spalling or cracking.

Hotwork is the pioneer of the convective heating process, which simplifies refractory dryouts and heatups. The one-sided drying of monolithic refractories is an extremely complex transient heat and mass transfer phenomenon which includes chemical reactions throughout the dryout. Moisture trapped in a refractory lining after a furnace or vessel rebuild is especially detrimental to optimum refractory performance.

Hotwork's convective heating method utilizes rapid heat transfer at all temperature levels. Our burners produce high velocity combustion, which is accurately controlled from ambient to temperatures in excess of 2500°F (1370°C). This high discharge rate circulates the products of combustion evenly throughout the vessel, regardless of size and configuration, producing overall temperature uniformity. The process results in fast, even moisture removal across the entire refractory lining allowing rapid furnace startups.

Hotwork has successfully completed dryouts and heatups on:

  Combined Cycle Boilers
Package Boilers
Fluidized Bed Boilers
Waste Heat Boilers
Cyclone-fired Boilers
Grate Boilers

Heat for Chemical Cleaning

Hotwork supplies heat for chemical cleaning and acid washing. The Hotwork system operates on natural gas, oil, fuel gas, or propane. If no fuel is available, Hotwork can contract temporary fuel on-site.

Heat for Steam Blows

Once refractory is thoroughly dried, Hotwork can increase BTU output for steam blows. Recovery times are reduced and dependence on new burner systems eliminated for timely startups.

Heat for Temporary Power Production

When systems are not ready and time is running out, Hotwork can supply heat input to permit the unit to go online.  Several power plants have had units producing power on the grid with Hotwork heat, saving penalties and tax credits.
